During the nineteenth century in Żejtun used to be the Magistrate’s Courts. Soon after their coming to Malta, the British appointed mayors with limited juridical and administrative powers, in the old towns and villages. In all, Żejtun had seven such successive mayors. The first one, a certain Ġużi Abela, was one of the leaders of the people of Żejtun in the uprising against the French. Nowadays is serving as the Nationalist Party political club.
